Coaching Intern (Lacrosse)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Tampa Bay Fire supports the growth and development of lacrosse in the Greater Tampa Bay area in a number and variety of ways.  In addition to it's renowned player development system, the Fire has created an internship program that is designed to identify players with the demonstrated knowledge, capability, and interest in coaching while exposing each player in the program to the requisite principles and practices of effective coaching.  We seek energetic, teachable, positive and passionate individual(s) committed to becoming a lacrosse coach and a leader in the lacrosse industry.  The Intern(s) will be responsible for supporting the coaching staff in their efforts to train and develop area lacrosse players in the skills, capabilities and knowledge required to advance to the collegiate level.  Day-to-day mentoring of this career growth oriented, internship program will be provided by the specific team coach and the President of the Tampa Bay Fire.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Through specific assignments, tasks, and responsibilities, interns receive hands-on introduction to each facet of the game from the coaching perspective;
  • The program is designed to provide a multi-year developmental experience that ensures that graduates of the program may assume official coaching duties at the middle school, high school, and elite levels. 
  • Support the activities related to coaching the team including scheduling and running practices, coaching offensive and defensive units of the team, and coordinate team activities at tournaments;
  • Provide on-site support and coordination of practices, camps, clinics, and tournaments;
  • Participate in regular coaching meetings and sessions;
  • Internship(s) will run from late Spring through Summer or Fall, depending on requirements and arrangements;
  • Intern(s) is responsible for own local housing;
  • Intern(s) must be available for all events (practices, tournaments, etc.).


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate college or university program or have graduated in the past 6 months;
  • Interns are encouraged and supported to pursue coaching certification through the U.S. Lacrosse certification program and Official / Referee certification through their local U.S. Lacrosse chapter;
  • Knowledge of lacrosse and involvement and exposure to lacrosse as a high-level player;
  • Professional image and demeanor;
  • Ability to work well with others, comfortable taking initiative and detail oriented;
  • Strong organizational and inter-personal skills;


COMPENSATION:

  • Financial compensation is currently not available although opportunities to earn income related to lacrosse services and activities may be possible;
  • Interns are eligible to receive academic course credit.  Students are responsible for providing documentation toward receiving academic credit for the internship.
